We arrived at this museum as our second stop of the day after driving by and thinking it would be interesting. We were let into the locked, air-conditioned gift shop by an enthusiastic woman. Just as we began to look at the artifacts there, she hurried us out the back to join a soon-ending tour for a family. We really hadn't expected to be stuck in a guided tour.
My daughter is a major fan of trains and this museam didn't showcase much of the local railroad history, like we'd imagined it would have. It's a beautiful collection of smaller exibits, however it's also a collection of artifacts that doesn't seem to flow well together or tell a story like the End O Line Museam in Currie does.
It is a very hot day and I overheat easily so it was particularly difficult to be slowed down by this formality. We never completed the tour as my head was pounding. I just get far more out of a museum where I can ponder the objects and soak that in at my own pace. I think this museum has much to offer but the guided tour should be optional.
Unfortunately we probably won't be going back.
Very impressive museum tucked in along highway 14 on the edge of Tracy, MN. 16 buildings of 100s of displays of a time gone by. Plan to visit at least 2 hours and the free train ride is a big hit with guests of all ages! Plan your visit in spring of 2018!
We just stopped in for the Pokestop, but it looked like an interesting place. Lots of small buildings and a train.
The exhibits here are fantastic! Something out of history to accommodate all interested parties! The volunteers are terrific and helpful! Be sure to stop by here next season!
We didn't have a bad experience, and I imagined the woman who gave us the tour we'd hoped not to have, would have allowed us to search the grounds, discover and discuss our findings as a family rather than have a 5th wheel. Perhaps she could have asked "would you like a tour?" Rather than following us and directing our experience as if it came with the price of admission. I would have kindly paid another $20 just for us to experience it on our own.
